Crane Training at Burgoynes Depot

Aug 16, 2024

On Saturday, 27th July 2024, crane rescue training took place on the 30m crane at Burgoynes Depot, where we are building 48 apartments for the London Borough of Newham.

There were 10 members of the London Fire Brigade present as well as Sam Davis (Site Manager), Helena O’Keeffe (Social Value and Community Manager), Josh van Haren (East Ham Blue Watch) whom we liaised with to allow them to utilise the crane for the day and Matt Smith (Nationwide Plant Solutions), who was representing the crane hire company. The fire brigade team worked incredibly hard on the day during high temperatures.

After receiving a brief induction, the team took to the crane for the first scenario, simulating stroke of the crane driver. They addressed the situation in a calm and controlled manner, ensuring they stopped to carry out all checks. One female firefighter was the one to bring the 70-pound dummy down the side of the crane in a stretcher.

The team then later carried out another scenario, simulating a protester on the crane, which was carried out with an equal amount of prestigiousness.

As a business, we were pleased to offer a chance for this training of life-saving skills, alongside the East Ham Fire Brigade who have been our neighbours in Newham.
