An update from site: Passivhaus Projects
In the week we celebrate Earth Day, we’re focusing on the Passivhaus projects Bugler Developments are delivering for sustainable living.
We are currently on site building over 220 Passivhaus homes, and have recently completed the London Borough of Newham’s first 65 affordable Passivhaus homes.

Passivhaus at a glance
Passivhaus certification ensures high standards for sustainability and energy consumption.
Bugler Developments follow a tried and tested Passivhaus Workflow. This sets out how, as an integrated design and construction team, we will work to deliver excellent results which are already being achieved due to the attention to detail with design, materials specification, and workmanship.
This is then followed up by close site supervision and the advice of a specialist consultant, with the Passivhaus credentials being assessed throughout and then certified at the project completion by two separate, independent entities.

Delivering Passivhaus: An update from our sites
At Burgoynes Depot in East Ham, we are delivering 48 Passivhaus homes across four blocks, one of which also involves a detailed retained façade. Block B has recently “Topped Out” by reaching the highest level of the build. Block A is progressing well with brickwork now commencing on the third floor, and Block C has reached the stage where the superstructure is complete; with screed commencing, blown insulation and a hardhat being applied to ensure air tightness – a key aspect of Passivhaus.
A few minutes away, at Vandome Close, part of the Custom House Regeration scheme, we are building 63 apartments across three blocks. Block and brickwork has commenced to the first block, and drainage is being laid across the site.
Close by, on Leyes Road, we are in the early stages of building 116 apartments to Passivhaus standards. We are in the ground here, as we start piling works in preparation for the next stages of the project.
Across all the schemes, we are engaging with the local community and delivering social value back into the communities through activities such as school site visits and local engagement sessions at community hubs.

The first affordable home Passivhaus scheme in Newham
On Friday, 19th January, the Bugler Developments Team were joined by Mayor Rokhsana Fiaz OBE and key representatives from the London Borough of Newham to celebrate the completion of Plashet Road, the first Passivhaus standard affordable homes scheme in the Borough.
This ensures the new homes are warm in winter, cool in summer, have fantastic air quality, reduce energy bills, and minimise carbon emissions. Passivhaus certification is currently in progress and due for completion in Spring 2024.
